With the growing popularity of SAP software, SAP consultant has become an emerging job role. As most companies are not accustomed yet with SAP software the function of an SAP consultant has become very important. In a concise manner, the functions of an SAP consultant involve participation in various SAP implementation & roll out projects or SAP support & maintenance projects.
However, speaking broadly the function of SAP consultant can be divided into two major divisions- Functional and Technical.
A proper SAP consultant has to take of both the division as he or she is in charge of the evaluation of the demands made by the customer’s representatives. He or she then needs to transform the required job into an abstract and algorithmic business model. In short, he needs to identify cases and transform them into logical and technical views.
Once the demand and logic gates are identified the main task begins I.e. customizing the respective business area and making sure the system respond in accordance to the constraints of the requested user.
Preparation of proper guidelines and documentation of the same for required further changes or repairs needs to be done by the functional SAP consultant. Lastly, the SAP consultant has to provide proper training to the users and also keep a check that the system is usable and is performing appropriately so as to keep the business flow working and correct.
At times he also needs to assists the technical staff by testing the behavior of the system.
Mostly an SAP consultant had to transfer external know-how to the client using his intelligence, and understanding of processes.
It is not about manpower in the SAP division but about the intelligence and knowledge of various industrial needs that make a successful SAP consultant division. An SAP consultant needs to always push the boundaries of normal rule-book and look beyond to provide customizable facilities to various client needs. He has to play with the codes and generate a seamless running program for business growth and development.
